Our Story
The story of Harcourts started a quarter of a century ago from a one room set-up at Glen Aber Place, Colombo on 1 January, 1989 by Ahamed Rheyas. Harcourts was not an inheritance from his fore-fathers as a heirloom. It was all a one man's dream and the dedication of a couple of souls who bestowed their faith and belief in his capabilities.
Harcourts in effect engineered a paradigm shift in the pharmaceutical scene of Sri Lanka of the 90's and the new millennium. The country was in the suffocating grip of the western MNCs where the common man could never dream of obtaining access to modern medicines. Harcourts was a witness to the sufferings of poor patients in clinics where the prevailing exorbitant prices of medicines often resulted in patients not receiving the correct medications.

Harcourts has traversed through a quarter of a century of challenges. In this journey we have set up numerous milestones etched with our insignia of achievements. We are a firm believer of the fact that it is the people who make all the difference to the core of an organization.
Harcourts Pharmacy & Pharmaceuticals
Harcourts’ entry into drug retailing through its chain of ‘Harcourts Pharmacies’ was an organic extension of its core business in pharmaceuticals. Harcourts Pharmacy was established in the year 1998 with the iconic first branch being opened in Dehiwela on February 27th. Two decades of professional service, comfortable ambience and reliable medical assistance has paved the way for Harcourts to be one of the best and largest pharmaceutical chains in the country with over 25 Branches Island wide.
Harcourts International School
Harcourts International Girls' School has its origin from Crescent School which was founded in 1983. The school was taken over by Chairman Mr. Ahamed Rheyas and is now managed under the Harcourts Foundation. The school has impressive infrastructure spanning over 100 perches. New developments include a secluded swimming pool and sprawling buildings to accommodate the growing student population. The well equipped Library, Science and Computer Laboratories ensure the students to gain an indepth understanding of their subjects. The play area provides recreational facilities for sports like Netball and Badminton.
Our aim is to harness the natural talents of the students and provide them an all round education that would inspire them to be wholesome individuals.
